Talented Ten: Session Two

Our Talented Ten Speaker Series! Sponsored by Mass Humanities and the Mass Cultural Council, our “Talented Ten” speaker series will engage with our community about important current events, as well as provide education about how the past can inform relevant situations in the present. This speaker series will supply a historical understanding of a range of significant topics, from education to democracy, and a myriad of concepts in-between, including our current healthcare system and Black reluctance to engage in initial vaccine rollouts.

This project will deliver 10 panelist(s), during which we will bring experts and prominent members of the community to speak about subjects relevant to the Black community at large. The “Talented Tenth” is, of course, the concept derived from W.E.B. DuBois that illustrates the importance of education in the Black community. With our Talented Ten speaker series, we seek to put a more inclusive spin on DuBois’s vision, and host ten “talented” speakers for a series of panels, open to the general public but focusing on issues that affect the Black population. Our intended audience includes everybody – of all races and cultural backgrounds – who would like to learn about or engage with these issues.
